The Criminal Code contains a number of restrictions on the application of criminal penalties to women.

Compulsory community service and correctional labor does not apply to pregnant women and women with children under the age of three.

No punishment is imposed in the form of imprisonment for a crime of minor social danger, a crime of negligence and an intentional less serious crime for pregnant women and women with children under the age of three.

Women cannot be sentenced to long terms or life imprisonment.

The commission of a crime by a pregnant woman is considered a mitigating circumstance.
