Reduced Working Hours

Under the Labour Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, one parent or guardian of a child under three years of age working for a budget-funded organisation must have working hours not exceeding 35 hours per week.

This guarantee may be used by:

  • the child’s mother;
  • the child’s father;
  • the child’s guardian.

The guarantee is provided to one person performing family responsibilities.

An employee working reduced hours must be paid at the rate established for a corresponding employee working full hours.

For a parent or guardian working for a non-budget-funded employer, reduced working hours may be established by:

  • a collective agreement;
  • a collective bargaining agreement;
  • an internal document adopted by the employer in agreement with the trade union committee.

Night Work and Overtime

A pregnant woman, one parent of a child under fourteen years of age or a child with a disability under sixteen years of age, and a person acting in place of the parents may only with their written consent:

  • be assigned to night work;
  • be assigned to overtime;
  • work on rest days;
  • work on non-working public holidays;
  • be sent on a business trip.

The employer must inform the employee in advance of their right to refuse such work or a business trip.

Medical Opinion

A pregnant woman or a woman with a child under three years of age may be assigned to night work only if there is a medical opinion confirming that the work poses no threat to the life or health of the woman and the child.

Written consent alone is insufficient: where a medical opinion is required by law, the employer may not assign the employee to night work without it.
